Borrow It

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 29 June 2026

These Terms govern your use of the Borrow It mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

Borrow It is a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects neighbours to lend and borrow everyday items. We provide the platform; we are not the owner, lender, or borrower of any item listed, and we are not a party to the rental agreement between users. Contact: joiandlaff@gmail.com.

2. Eligibility & accounts

3. Listing items (lenders)

4. Bookings & payments

Payments and payouts are processed by Stripe. By transacting you also agree to Stripe's terms. All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP).

5. Security deposits

For some short rentals a refundable deposit hold equal to the item's replacement value may be placed on the borrower's card. It is released on verified return, or captured if the item is not returned or is lost.

6. Returns, late returns & missing items

7. Damage claims

If an item is returned damaged, the lender may open a damage claim (capped at the item's replacement value). No charge is taken automatically: the borrower is notified and can accept the charge or dispute it. Disputes, and claims left unanswered, are reviewed by our team, who decide whether to uphold or dismiss the claim. Condition photos taken at handover are used as evidence.

8. Verified handover

Pickups and returns are confirmed by scanning a short-lived QR code on the other party's device, together with a condition photo. This creates a record of who handed over what, when, and in what condition. You agree to complete handovers honestly.

9. Charity PUDO hubs

10. Lender payouts & tax

Lenders receive payouts through a Stripe Connect account and must complete Stripe's onboarding to be paid. You are solely responsible for declaring and paying any tax due on income you earn through the Service.

11. Acceptable use

12. Reviews

Reviews must be genuine and based on real transactions. We may remove reviews that breach these Terms.

13. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or remove accounts that breach these Terms, engage in fraud or abuse, or create risk for other users. You may delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account), subject to settling any outstanding obligations.

14. Our role & liability

Borrow It is a venue that connects users; we do not inspect, guarantee, or take responsibility for items, their condition, safety, or legality, or for users' conduct. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss or damage arising from transactions between users or from items borrowed or lent. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Borrow It against claims, losses and costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your listings, or your transactions with other users.

16. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, save that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence where required by applicable local law.
